What is Temple Rejuvenation?

One of the signs of aging is loss of fat in specific areas, which results in hollow or drooping portions of the face and body. The temporal area just outside of the eyes can show loss of volume and appear hollow. This can be reversed by having dermal filler injected in the temple area. This makes the area appear higher, smoother, and more youthful.

There are multiple types of fillers that can be used, most of which contain hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid, or HA, is a natural compound made by the body that is most concentrated in the fluids under the skin and joints. HA helps with cushioning and lubrication, and is used to treat many joint problems, like arthritis in the knees. It also has a unique ability to bind to water, which adds volume under the skin in targeted applications. Well-hydrated skin also appears smoother. HA also helps keep collagen healthy, which is a fibrous protein that keeps the skin taut and elastic. The body produces less HA as we age, and less HA means less collagen. With lower levels of both of these, your face may appear thin or sunken and your skin may appear wrinkled or uneven.

Injections in the temple areas with filler that contains HA can replenish plumpness and suppleness to the skin quickly and easily.

What are the signs I need Temple Rejuvenation?

A young person’s face is shaped as an inverted triangle – slightly wider at the eyes and temple area, and narrower toward the chin. As we age, the triangle becomes reversed, and the face becomes narrower at the top and broader at the bottom.

Bones, muscles, and fat change with the effects of time and gravity. Underneath the skin, we have fat pads which begin to get thinner as we age and produce less hyaluronic acid and collagen. In a younger face, thicker fat pads give volume and create a smooth, full surface. As the fat pads thin, the face looks less firm and round, and may seem to be sunken or sagging, and the contours change.

Does temple filler make you look younger?

Temple filler can restore fullness at the top of the triangle of the face. Filler in the temporal area also slightly lifts the sides of the eyes, plumps the skin, and smooths out crow’s feet wrinkles at the outer corners of the eyes.

Your doctor at Mediworks Rejuvenation Centre will conduct a full consultation with you to determine the best treatment plan for you, which may include recommendations for other aesthetic services that will complement your youthful new facial contours from temple rejuvenation.

How are sunken temples treated?

Temple rejuvenation is a fast and easy treatment. It takes just a few minutes to receive your injections, and recovery time is short, just a few days. There is no anesthesia required, and you’ll be able to drive yourself home afterwards. Results can last for six months to a few years.

When you arrive for your treatment, your doctor will do the following:

  • Clean the face to remove all makeup and bacteria
  • You may have a numbing injection or a topical numbing agent applied
  • Prepare the sterile syringe and inject – you may have multiple injections per temple
  • Massage the area to spread the product evenly
  • Clean the area

After your temple rejuvenation, you’ll need to sleep on your back for a few nights to avoid putting pressure on the temples. You should refrain from intense exercise for a few days, and be sure to clean your skin at least once daily to prevent infections while you heal and filler settles. You may have some mild side effects, including swelling, pain or itching, bruising or redness, but these will dissipate quickly.
