The main reason to get under-eye filler is to fill the hollowness under the eye called the “tear trough”. This in turn can help correct hollowness and dark under-eye circles. Tear trough deformity is a major concern for some individuals as it can give them a fatigued and aged look. It’s the result of heredity and the natural aging process where you have a breakdown of fat pads, collagen, and elastin as well as bone loss.
It’s important to determine if the dark circles are due to volume loss due to aging or genetics or hyperpigmentation, prior to injecting filler. Dermal filler doesn’t help if it’s hyperpigmentation.
Contraindications to under-eye dermal filler treatment:

- considerable skin laxity/thin skin
- pregnancy/breastfeeding

- active skin infection

On the day of your treatment, your doctor will meet with you and assess the area to be injected and discuss your aesthetic goals. Based on that, your doctor will determine the right amount and type of dermal filler required.
Once the area is cleaned, marked, and prepared, your doctor will begin the treatment. The dermal filler may be injected via a needle, cannula, or a combination of both techniques. The under-eye filler treatment takes about 30 minutes.
Results can be seen immediately after the under-eye filler treatment. Final results are visible once all the swelling subsides. Usually between 7-14 days after the treatment.
There may be some swelling and bruising after your under-eye filler treatment. This usually subsides within a week or so. It’s important to follow the post-treatment guidelines recommended by your doctor.
Under-eye filler treatment can last 12-18 months. Every patient is unique in their ability to metabolize the Hyaluronic Acid. Touch-up treatments are required to maintain your results.
