Does Botox help with aging?

Botox is a common, widely used method to help reduce the visible signs of aging. While nothing can stop or completely reverse time, Botox is effective in reducing wrinkles and other common physical signs of aging, like sagging or dimpled skin. While Botox can generally be used for adults of all ages, it may have varying degrees of effectiveness depending on when it is used, how much, and how far the wrinkles or other signs of aging have progressed.

You may have heard more recently about something termed ‘preventative Botox’, which is the administration of Botox before signs of aging are present and apparent. It is popular among clients in their 20s, who want to get a head start on reducing and preventing further physical signs of aging. This type of Botox can help prevent wrinkles from completely forming and showing, therefore delaying the appearance of aging.

It’s important to receive Botox from a licensed administrator and to ensure that it is done correctly, in the right amounts, and with the appropriate amount of time in between treatments for you and your specific needs. This is crucial in reducing the chance of issues or complications, and having the best results. At Mediworks Rejuvenation Centre, our team is licensed to administer Botox and has extensive experience working with clients to get the best, most realistic, natural-looking results.

How does Botox work to reduce wrinkles?

Botox doesn’t actually make wrinkles disappear — this is a common misconception, and as a client, you should be wary of any provider that is making this claim. Instead, Botox works by temporarily disabling the facial muscles that actually cause the wrinkles in question. We all create natural wrinkles or depressions in our faces when we frown or smile, due to the natural movement and contraction of the muscles in our face. Botox essentially blocks the facial nerves that tell your muscles to contract and cause wrinkles as a result.

While that may sound intense or drastic, it’s important to know that the effects of Botox are temporary. Depending on the client, the effects of Botox injections will last between three to five months. For many clients, more than one treatment is necessary in order to maintain and further enhance results. The waiting period between treatments is important. With Botox, if you do too much too soon, your face can end up with a “frozen” appearance, which looks obvious and unnatural.

It’s important to keep in mind that Botox isn’t a magical treatment. If you have deeper wrinkles that have been present for some time, Botox may not be able to completely reduce them, but it can soften them and make them appear less deep. The effects of Botox typically become visually noticeable in about a 10-day time frame.

Where can I put Botox on my face?

The face is the most common site where Botox is injected. It can generally be used on most areas of the face, including the upper forehead, eyebrow area, around the eyes (crow’s feet), top of the nose, chin, jawline, and mouth. It’s also commonly used around the lips for “lipstick lines” or smile lines.

Botox also has many uses aside from cosmetic reasons. Those who grind their teeth or jaw, a common condition known as bruxism, can have Botox injections in their jaw area, which helps relax the muscle and ease the impacts of teeth grinding. Botox can also help those who experience migraine headaches, via the same mechanism of blocking certain nerves and muscles from contracting. However, if you have a medical or therapeutic reason to use Botox, be sure to discuss it with your primary care provider first.

You may be nervous about getting treatment on or around your face, which is completely understandable. At Mediworks Rejuvenation Centre, we make sure to take our time consulting with you about your concerns, needs, and desired results before going ahead with any treatment. We want you to feel completely comfortable with your decision, and do everything we can to create a safe, comfortable experience. We serve patients from Surrey BC, Burnaby BC, Langley City BC, White Rock BC, New Westminster BC, Vancouver BC, and nearby areas.
